Our Mission

Current owners Ted Carpenter and Gary Schultz strive to maintain the
same integrity and quality of service started by our founder Lawrence Porter Sr.
back in 1960. This was a time that a mans' work would set him apart from others
in his community. We still believe this to be true as we try to keep ourselves
ahead of new and innovative technologies today. Company Profile
Porter & Heckman has been providing plumbing, heating, cooling, geothermal, and electrical services for over 45 years.
We have been a leader in southeastern Michigan with over 31 years of installing and servicing high efficiency geothermal heating and cooling systems.
Starting back in the mid 1970's during the first energy "crisis", geothermal heating/cooling was still in it's infancy. Porter & Heckman worked hard to reach as many people as possible and teach them the advantages of geothermal.
After the end of the "crisis" and with the loss of the tax incentives and rebates, most contractors chose to go back to what they were good at, mainly fossil fuel fired heating systems. Porter & Heckman stuck with what they believed in, and that is to offer high efficiency geothermal heating, cooling, and hot water systems.
So here in Michigan today, and with over 1,000 installed & serviced geothermal heat pumps, we continue to grow with the geothermal heat pump market during this new and very serious "energy crisis.
Yes, we do sell and install fossil fuel fired furnaces and boilers, conventional water heaters, along with Amana high efficiency air-to-air heat pumps. This is because we realize that geothermal heat pumps are not for everybody. We are in business to serve our customers with our expertise in this industry, and to help them make the right decisions on the most economical, comfortable, and reliable system, that they can afford.
